Honda’s excellent reputation for quality and reliability dates back to 1973 when Honda first introduced Canada to the Honda Civic. The sub-compact Civic was very fuel-efficient and extremely reliable and soon became a Canada favourite.
In 1974, the Civics’ CVCC engine was the first car without a catalytic converter to meet Canada’s tough emission standards. Honda quickly followed up with the slightly larger Honda Accord in 1976.
By 1986, Honda opened its Canadian production line in Alliston, Ontario. By 1991, Honda sold its one-millionth Honda in Canada (and reached 8 million in sales by 2017)! In 2019, Honda delivered 195,000 units to the Canadian Market.
Over the years, Honda has attained a number of impressive firsts in Canada. In 2003, Honda became the very first car manufacturer to offer the highest level of occupant protection across its entire vehicle lineup, regardless of vehicle size or price. By 2009, Honda was named one of Canada’s “50 Most Socially Responsible Corporations” by Maclean’s Magazine.
In 2019, the Honda Civic celebrated its 22nd consecutive year as Canada’s top selling passenger car. Acura is Honda’s premium line of vehicles.
